In recent years, Asia-Pacific has experienced rapid and sustained increase in air traffic demand with majority being cross-border flights within the region. ANSPs and airport operators have continuously explored and contributed efforts to increase airspace and airport capacity to match the increasing demand. However, these capacity enhancement efforts require much time to materialize and are insufficient to meet the steep and sustained growth in traffic demand in the near future. This result in inefficient delivery of flights with unpredictable delays at arrival resources. An effective solution to ensure a smooth flow of traffic was urgently required.
