The Malaysia Aviation Academy (MAvA), the training arm of Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Malaysia, has been awarded the certification of an approved Air Traffic Control – Aviation Training Organisation (ATC-ATO) from the Director General Civil Aviation Malaysia. This recent certification was the result of an extensive audit by the Air Navigation Services (ANS) regulator – Air Traffic Inspectorate Division of DCA Malaysia upon which MAvA has successfully met the regulatory requirements as established in the Air Navigation Services Regulatory Manual, DCA Malaysia and pursuant to the ICAO Annex 1 – Personnel Licensing of the Chicago Convention. The audit conducted at MAvA’s facilities located at Sepang, covered amongst others, the facilities’ quality, instructors’ qualifications, training materials, teaching methods and training equipment.

Through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), MAvA has been the nominated aviation training centre for conducting training courses for ANS personnel around the world, and as such, has established a reputation within the global aviation personnel training community. The ATC-ATO certification is an important milestone for MAvA in its mission towards becoming a member of the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP) which is ICAO’s cooperative network of training centres. MAvA is making plans to be an ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Member and ICAO Regional Training Centre of Excellence.
