YBhg. Dato’ Kok Soo Chon

Dato’ Kok Soo Chon has had a distinguished career in civil aviation spanning over four decades. A professional engineer by training, he began his service in the Public Works Department before moving into aviation, where he played pivotal roles in shaping Malaysia’s regulatory and operational framework.

He formerly served as the Director General of Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) from 1999 to 2007. Under his leadership, Malaysia became the first country in Asia to sign the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) with the United States.

Following his retirement, Dato’ Kok was appointed as Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council in Montreal from 2008 to 2010, where he represented Malaysia at the global stage. He has also contributed his expertise as the Investigator-in-Charge of the MH370 investigation.

Dato’ Kok holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Malaya, as well as a Law degree (LLB Hons) from the University of London and a Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP).

With his wealth of technical, regulatory and international experience, Dato’ Kok continues to play an important role in strengthening Malaysia’s aviation safety and regulatory oversight through his appointment as an Authority Member of CAAM.
