Strengthening Collaboration Among Stakeholders and Promoting Self-Regulation as Key to Driving Progress
KUALA LUMPUR, 25 February 2025 – The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) hosted a ceremony today to showcase recent advancements made through cooperation with local and international aviation stakeholders. These efforts focus on enhancing consumer protection, service quality, and overall industry performance in Malaysia’s civil aviation industry.
Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Haji Habibollah, Deputy Minister of Transport of Malaysia, who graced the event as the Guest of Honour, stated, “This year holds special importance as Malaysia chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and pursues a seat on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council for the 2025-2028 term. Malaysia has made significant efforts to defend its ICAO Council Seat over the years, having been a member for 6 consecutive terms since 2007. These milestones allow us to demonstrate Malaysia’s advancement and commitment to aviation excellence. Fostering collaboration among all aviation stakeholders is essential to achieving this goal.”
He added, “In line with this, I urge members of the industry to take proactive steps in strengthening the sector. This means modernising airline and airport infrastructure, attracting more international carriers, and investing in digitisation and sustainable initiatives. Our airports must embody efficiency and innovation, delivering seamless passenger experiences that meet global standards. Equally important is building a skilled workforce and staying prepared for external challenges such as economic uncertainties, supply chain disruptions, and shifting consumer expectations. To thrive, we must be agile, forward-thinking, and go beyond mere regulatory compliance, striving for excellence at every level. This mindset is key to our aviation industry’s continued growth and success.”
During the ceremony, MAVCOM also provided an update on its upcoming enhanced Airline and Airport Performance Dashboard, set to launch on 1 April 2025 on MAVCOM’s website, www.mavcom.my.
This interactive dashboard is designed to provide deeper insights into key aviation performance data related to airline on-time performance (OTP) and flight cancellations, as well as various airport performance indicators that align with the Airports Quality of Service (QoS) Framework, which evaluates service standards at airports in Malaysia.
The enhanced dashboard was developed to improve transparency, tracking, and analysis of industry performance, fostering greater accountability among operators. By leveraging this data, MAVCOM aims to empower stakeholders to raise the standards of Malaysia’s aviation industry and assist consumers in making informed choices about their preferred carriers based on reliable performance indicators.
The enhanced dashboard will feature an expanded range of flight performance data, incorporating information on both local and international airlines. It will highlight the reasons for flight delays and cancellations, as well as the performance trends of carriers operating from Malaysian airports.
MAVCOM’s Executive Chairman, Datuk Seri Hj. Saripuddin Hj. Kasim said that the introduction of this enhanced dashboard represents a step in the right direction towards fostering a more self-regulated aviation industry in Malaysia.
He said, “Our primary objective is to cultivate a more self-sustaining and self-regulated aviation industry. In doing so, we aim not only to continue effectively addressing consumer complaints but also to minimise them altogether. A reduction in complaints is a strong indicator of an industry that is maturing, one that prioritises consumer satisfaction and operational excellence. We recognise that achieving this goal requires the collaboration and support of our industry stakeholders, as enhancing the industry cannot be done in isolation. Therefore, we sincerely appreciate their ongoing cooperation.”
