Malaysian Aircraft Maintenance License
The CAAM Part-66 AML is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia allowing the holder to issue certificate of release to service upon completion of maintenance task performed on a Malaysian registered aircraft. The certificate of release to service shall be issued when the signatory is satisfied that the work has been properly carried out and accurately recorded, having due regards to the use of: –
- Up-to-date instruction and approved airworthiness data
- Recommended tooling and test equipment
- Working environment appropriate to the work being carried out.
Malaysian AML are issued in accordance with the current Standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) contained in Annex 1.
In aviation terms, the word maintenance refers to the performance of tasks required to ensure the continuing airworthiness of an aircraft, including any one or combination of overhaul, inspection, replacement, defect rectification, and the embodiment of a modification or repair.
An applicant needs to furnish evidence and demonstrate sufficient knowledge, experience, competence and skill, in
accordance with Notice 1101 current in force.
There are two options to become an aircraft maintenance licensing personnel: –
- Self-Study, by
– passing relevant module examination,
– completing the appropriate practical assessment, and
– demonstrate evidence of recent practical maintenance experience on operating aircraft; or
- Enroll into a CAAM Part-147 Maintenance Training Organisation,
– completed a basic training course by obtaining a certificate of recognition issued under the provision of Notice 1201
where both modules examination and practical assessment has been passed and completed.

In both cases the applicant shall be at least 21 years of age.
An AML holder is advisable to be mindful of the expiry date of the licence and that the holder does not exercise its certification privileges if it has expired.
However, in the event that the licence has expired, AML holder can apply for a renewal in the normal way but the holder must also include a letter stating that he/she does not exercised the privileges of the licence since its expiry date together with a supporting letter from the quality personnel of approved maintenance organisation, if applicable.
In accordance with Notice 1101, CAAM would normally accept type training certificate issued by:-
- CAAM Part-147 Maintenance Training Organisation
- Training course or program conducted in accordance with Regulation 37 of CAR 2016
No. CAAM only endorse aircraft type which is registered in Malaysia, or has been type validated.
