YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Halim Mohammad

A name well known in the corporate world, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Halim Mohammad is the Founding Director of Halim Mazmin Group (HM Group) which was founded in 1980. He is currently the Executive Chairman of HM Group and is the Founder of Meritus University – a private higher learning institution licensed by Ministry of Education Malaysia.

He began his early career at sea – sailing on various merchant vessels and has today over 40 years of experience in the maritime industry. In the international arena, due to experience and vast knowledge, he was elected by the Paris-based Bureau Veritas – one of the largest international ship classification societies – as a member of its Sub Committee for Asia-Australia. He was also a Board Member of the prestigious UK-based North of England Protection & Indemnity Insurance Club for ship-owners worldwide.

Tan Sri Halim Mohammad served the government as the Director and Chairman of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) from 2004 to 2010 and he was a Board Member of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He was again re-appointed as Chairman of MATRADE in January 2019 and in April 2005, he was commissioned as an Honorary Captain of RMNRV of the Royal Malaysian Navy.

HM Group which Tan Sri Halim Mohammad helms has today evolved into a well-diversified corporation with investments in Maritime, Aviation, Higher Education and Hospitality. The group has now emerged as a leading player in the Malaysian shipping industry, offering excellent and quality service to its customers. The company, with its group of companies, has a broad-based operation, and is considered as one of the largest and most successful private sector-owned public listed shipping companies in Malaysia.

YBhg. Tan Sri Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Chuah Hean Teik

YBhg. Tan Sri Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Chuah Hean Teik is currently the President, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Professor, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, a position he held since 2008. Prior to this, he has served in various reputable local universities including Multimedia University and University of Malaya.

Tan Sri also serves in many professional and advisory bodies and committees including the President of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) for 2016/2019 session. He is also the Chairman, Standing Committee on Engineering Education of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and Pacific (FEIAP) for two consecutive sessions from 2015 to 2019. Tan Sri was awarded the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award (Individual Category) from the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations and Exemplary Leaders Award (Education Category) from The Federation of the Hokkien Associations of Malaysia in 2017 for his outstanding achievements and contributions.

YBhg. Datuk Ben Chan Chong Choon

Datuk Ben Chan Chong Choon is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and a member of the Malaysian Bar. Prior to setting up his own practice in 2017, Datuk Ben Chan was a litigation partner in established Kuala Lumpur-based law firms. He graduated from the University of London with a LLB degree in 1990 and then obtained his Certificate in Legal Practice from the Qualification Board of Malaysia. He obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Malaya in 1995. Earlier, he had completed his professional qualification with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrator (ICSA) and admitted as an associate member.

Datuk Ben Chan regularly undertakes and conducts litigation cases in the Appellate Courts, High Court, Subordinate Courts and Arbitral Tribunals. He is an Arbitrator, Adjudicator and a Mediator in the panel of the Asian International Arbitration Centre. Presently, he also sits as a panel member in the Disciplinary Committee established under the Legal Profession Act 1976.

He has acted in various high-profile litigation matters involving commercial disputes and important arbitration cases relating to construction contracts and oil & gas. Datuk Ben Chan also provides banking, finance, insolvency and regulatory advice to financial institutions and investment intermediaries, insolvency practitioners, borrowers and investors and advises on construction law disputes. He had lectured on business law and company law at talks, seminars as well as various institutions. He is main author of the book, “Chan & Koh – on Malaysian Company Law” Sweet & Maxwell, Asia.

YBhg Dato’ Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi

YBhg Dato’ Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi is a consultant focused on corporate and regulatory advisory work. He started his career as a lawyer specialising in construction law and subsequently became a corporate advisor involved in several corporate turnaround exercises.

He was a former regulator on the internet, telecoms, online media as well as the postal and express delivery industry. He had two tours of duty serving Malaysia’s telecoms, media and postal and digital signature regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) where he was in the pioneer team during the formative years of MCMC (2000-2006) after the cessation of Telekom Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Telekom Malaysia) and the Broadcast Licensing Division, Ministry of Information (Bahagian Perlesenan Penyiaran, Kementerian Penerangan Malaysia). After several years in the private sector, he was invited to return to MCMC to become its Chief Operating Officer before later being appointed as its Chairman and Chief Executive in late 2011.

During his tenure in public service, amongst others, he coordinated the first high level “Expert Dialogues on Real-time Monitoring of Flight Data” between the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) soon after the conclusion of the ITU’s World Telecommunications Development Conference in 2014.

He sits on the board of several public listed companies in Malaysia and several other private companies spanning across various industries. He is a passionate supporter of technology start-ups.

Sharil graduated with an LL.B(Hons) from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and qualified as a Barrister, of Gray’s Inn, London. He was also called to the Malaysian Bar.

Captain Norazman Bin Mahmud

Chief Executive Officer

Captain Norazman Mahmud carries with him more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. His illustrious career includes flying multiple fleets of B737, B747 and A330 aircraft and was the first pilot in Malaysia to be rated on the A350 aircraft.

Captain Norazman first attained his pilot wings in 1990 and began his flying career with the country’s national carrier, Malaysia Airlines in 1991. He received training from the Civil Air Training Academy Australia and was later seconded to the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) in 2005. During his extensive career with Malaysia Airlines, he had served as an examiner for B737, A330 and A350 aircraft and Fleet Captain Wide Body. He was appointed as the Chief Pilot Fleet Operations of Flight Operations at Malaysia Airlines from 2017 to 2020 where he was responsible for leading the efficiency of line operations and contributed in enhancing the flight operations process via technology transformation.

Captain Norazman was previously the Director of Flight Operations of CAAM. In this position, he led the Division with four pillars of strategies, namely; Digital Transformation, Documentation, Training, and Collaboration to revolutionize CAAM in line with its vision to be the world’s leading aviation authority.
