Director Of Malaysia Aviation Academy

Malaysia Aviation Academy (MAvA) started as a training centre for air traffic control in 1969 as the Civil
Aviation Training Centre (CATC), which was then renamed as Civil Aviation Academy (CAC) in 1981
and later rebranded to the present name in 2008.

Functioning as a designated training division for CAAM, MAvA certification as an Air Traffic Control –
Approved Training Organisation (ATC-ATO) was granted by CAAM regulatory body, namely Air
Navigation Services and Aerodrome Division (ANSA), while the certification as a Full Member of the
ICAO TRAINAIR Plus Programme was granted by ICAO TRAINAIR.

MAvA has been instrumental and is responsible in providing a range of courses for Air Traffic Control
(ATC) initial training and non-ATC development training, specifically for CAAM Air Navigation Services
Operations Division (ANSOD) and other aviation industry in general. MAvA also takes part in Malaysian
Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) and provides training for international participants under
ICAO’s umbrella.

Sub-divided into Operational and Administrative division, most units under MAvA fall under the Operational division and also the purview of the Director. Notable units’ functions are:

Course Development & Design Unit:

• Develop new courseware including ICAO ITP/STP with compliance to
specification by regulatory bodies.
• Revise existing courseware and instructional materials
• Improve and evaluate training courses and technical guidance processes through studies and
evaluations at relevant CAAM stations.
• Validate the structure, content, academic standards and teaching of courses

Course Management Unit:

• Manage, organize and deliver courses as stipulated under MAvA and
CAAM requirements.
• Monitor, supervise and provide necessary knowledge, skill and attitude to course
participants.
• Assess participants through scheduled assessment methods.
• Operate simulators for the purpose of ATC training.

Examination Unit

• Manage examination process as per MAvA examination procedures.
• Prepare and revise question banks for final ATC examination.
• Review and update examination procedures as required by regulatory
bodies

Quality & Standard Unit

• Manage internal quality audits
• Ensure the Quality Management System is established, implemented,
continuously reviewed and improved.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies on audits and certification
